Intro:
Here’s my first Pokemon moveset guide about Skarmory, the Iron Bird. Having High Defense it is a very good physical wall. I will be about to show you a very good moveset and build of Skarmory. You can freely use it in your own will (and risk hehehe)
Item: Leftovers
To allow it to last in battle Leftovers is the key, having it restore a small amount of HP per turn will make it hard to kill.
Nature: Impish (+ Def, - Sp. Att)
Self-explanatory, Skarmory doesn’t need SPECIAL ATTACK so might as well go with Impish to give it extra DEFENSE.
EV’s:
252 HP / 252 Defense / 6 Attack
Skarmory needs HP to boot with Leftovers and DEFENSE to make it more bulkier and little ATTACK to destroy subs and might as well for a little offense.
Moves:
Toxic - This a good move for starters as it weakens out bulky Pokemon like Blissey and Umbreon making Skarmory last more than them. Though I might say that a usual Skamory would have Rest but I placed a Leftovers so it should do just fine.
Steel Wing - Surprised ?, well Steel Wing is better that Drill Peck IMO. Well first, it has a good anti-Weavile coverage and can raise Defense one stage. Pretty much useful since if your Heracross enemy knows your gonna Drill Peck it, so it will be useless since it will switch anyway.
Stealth Rock - Well this is one of my most favorite attacks for a Skarmory as it
deals damage as opponents enter. Combined with Roar, it can damage your opponents killing them little by little. This is better than Spikes as at a first layer it can dice out good damage compared to Spikes which takes about 3 layers and a waste of two turns.
Roar - Well this attack makes Skarmory a Pseudo-Hazer, thus making BP’ers and Self-Buffer Sweepers be upset as their efforts are doomed to failure and this also can be used to shuffle the enemy team’s Pokemon. Then you will see what the enemy will use.
Strategy:
Well Skarmory must be placed on the top of the team making it the first to battle. When in battle, deploy the Stealth Rock first then use Toxic if you think that this opposing Pokemon doesn’t have killer Special Attack moves like Fire Blast and Thunderbolt. Prediction and Timing is the key on when to Attack, Poison or Pseudo-Haze.
What to Fear:
Though you think that Skarmory is invincible, then think again. Special Attacks, not only Fire Blasts and Thunderbolts, must be feared as Skarmory has low / average SPECIAL DEFENSE. You also have to watch out for Status changes like Paralysis or Burns as it will give Skarmory a hard time to battle as we didn’t use Rest in the first place.
Closing Words:
Well Skarmory is a good Pokemon. A very good Physical Wall (best Physical Wall In my opinion). With the right Roaring and Roaring, you could urge your enemy to switch and let them be killed steadily with your entry hazard attack. And oh another thing, you could also use Spikes instead of Stealth Rock since many as in many Pokemon can learn Stealth Rock while there are only a few SPikers.
Oh, before I forget, credit to Sugimori sprites go to Pokebeach. Thank you so much.
